Why Widgetfied Is Free
The Short Answer
Widgetfied is free because we make money when you grow. The base site costs nothing — forever. As your business scales, you can upgrade for more features, and we take a small 1.3% fee on transactions. That's it. If you never upgrade, you never pay.
Why This Model Exists
Most SaaS tools charge you $30-100/month before you've made a single dollar from them. You're paying for the privilege of trying to grow.
That never made sense to us. If you're a massage therapist starting out, or an HVAC tech who just wants a professional page with booking — why should you pay $50/month for that?
So we built Widgetfied with a different premise: our incentive should be aligned with yours.
If you succeed, we succeed. If you never grow past the free tier, that's fine too — you still get a real product, not a crippled trial.
What Free Actually Includes
This isn't a bait-and-switch free tier with one feature unlocked:
- A full hosted business page at widgetfied.com/biz/your-name
- Booking with Google Calendar sync — real-time availability, SMS confirmations
- AI-powered estimates — upload photos, get instant quotes (10 credits/month)
- Data mining — find people who need your service, backed by census data (3 sessions/month)
- Job portal — customers track their jobs and status
- Route optimization — plan multi-stop routes with time windows
- Admin KPI dashboard — see your business metrics live
- 3 themes — customize your brand, logo, colors
That's a functional business operations suite. Not a landing page with an "upgrade to do anything" wall.
How We Actually Make Money
Two ways:

Paid plans ($29-79/month) — Growth and Scale plans add payments via Stripe Connect, more AI credits, more data mining sessions, white-label options, and priority support. These are for businesses that are already generating revenue and want more power.

1.3% transaction fee — On paid plans, when you process payments through our Stripe integration, we take a small 1.3% platform fee on top of Stripe's standard processing fees. You keep the rest.
That's the entire business model. No ads. No selling your data. No hidden upsells.
The Math Behind It
If you process $10,000/month through Widgetfied on a Growth plan ($29/month), here's what we make:
- Plan fee: $29
- Transaction fee: $130 (1.3% of $10K)
- Total: $159/month
And here's what you keep: $9,871 (minus Stripe's standard ~2.9% + 30¢ per transaction, which goes to Stripe, not us).
We only make meaningful revenue when you're doing meaningful business. That's the alignment.
What If I Never Upgrade?
Then you never pay. The free plan doesn't expire. There's no trial period. There's no "free for 14 days" asterisk.
You get a hosted business page with booking, estimates, data mining, and a KPI dashboard — indefinitely.
We'd rather have 10,000 free users (some of whom eventually upgrade) than 100 paying users who resent the bill.
The Bottom Line
We grow when you grow. That's not a tagline — it's the business model.
